# Braun ThermoScan Tympanic Ear Thermometer

The Braun ThermoScan 5 is built around two innovations that make ear thermometry actually reliable: **ExacTemp** positioning technology and a **Pre-Warmed Tip** — so every reading starts in the right place and at the right temperature.

* **ExacTemp positioning system** — a light and beep confirm the probe is correctly angled in the ear canal before the reading is taken; no more guessing
* **Pre-Warmed Tip** — tip is pre-heated to ear canal temperature, eliminating the cold-probe effect that can cause children to move and disrupt readings
* **1-second measurement** — fast enough that even wriggly toddlers can't dodge it
* **FSA / HSA eligible** — covered purchase with flexible spending funds, no prescription required
* **Pediatrician recommended** — the #1 doctor-recommended thermometer brand in the US

## Accurate for Every Age. Every Time.

The ThermoScan 5 covers the full household — newborns to adults — with age-adjusted color guidance so you always know what a reading means for the person you're checking.

* **Temperature range:** 89.6°F–108°F (32°C–42.2°C) — covers fever and hypothermia
*   **Accuracy:** ±0.2°F — clinical-grade precision
*   **Age-based color indicator** — green/yellow/orange guidance for 0–3 months, 3–36 months, and 36+ months / adults
* **9-reading memory** — track temperature trends over time without writing anything down
* **Backlit display** — readable in a dark room without turning on a light
* **Disposable lens filters** — hygienic use every time; 21 filters included, replacements widely available

## Features

### ExacTemp® Technology
Confirms probe position before reading — a light and beep signal correct ear canal placement so every measurement is taken from the right angle.

### Pre-Warmed Tip
The probe tip is pre-heated to match ear canal temperature, removing the cold-probe discomfort that disrupts readings — especially in infants and toddlers.

### Age-Adjusted Color Guidance
Three colored indicators instantly flag whether a temperature reading is in the normal, elevated, or high range — calibrated separately for three age groups.

## Age-Adjusted Normal Temperature Ranges
The ThermoScan 5 displays a color-coded indicator based on the age setting you select. Set your age group before measuring:

*   **0–3 Months**
    *   **Normal:** ≤ 100.4°F
    * Rectal equivalent. Contact pediatrician for any fever in this age group.
*   **3–36 Months**
    *   **Normal:** ≤ 102.2°F
    * Monitor and consult doctor if over 102°F or persistent.
*   **36+ Months / Adult**
    *   **Normal:** ≤ 100.4°F
    * Standard adult fever threshold. Seek care if above 103°F.

Always consult a healthcare provider for fever management guidance, especially for infants under 3 months.

## FAQ

**What is ExacTemp technology?**
ExacTemp is Braun's positioning confirmation system. Before a reading is taken, the thermometer checks that the probe tip is correctly placed in the ear canal. A steady green light and a beep signal correct placement — if the probe is angled wrong, the device withholds the reading to prevent inaccurate results.

**Do I need to use a lens filter every time?**
Yes. Each measurement should use a clean, disposable lens filter for hygienic use and accurate readings. The filter caps the probe tip to prevent contamination and ensure consistent IR measurement. 21 filters are included; refills (LF20) are available separately.

**Can I use this on a newborn?**
Yes — the ThermoScan 5 is safe for all ages including newborns. Select the 0–3 month age setting, and follow the color indicator. Note: the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends rectal thermometry as the gold standard for infants under 3 months; consult your pediatrician.

**How do I read the age-based color indicator?**
Before measuring, select the age group (0–3M / 3–36M / 36M+). After the reading, the display shows a color: green = normal range, yellow/orange = elevated or high. Exact cutoffs vary slightly by age group — see the Age Guide accordion above.

**What batteries does it use?**
Two AA batteries, included in the box. Battery life is typically several hundred readings.
